St. John Lutheran Church
Dublin, OH
2/5 M.P.
Möller
Opus 8183 - 1950
Behind
the grill on the left side of the above photo is the two manual, five
rank M.P. Möller pipe organ in the second church building at St. John
Lutheran in Dublin, OH. Not all pipe organs have to be large, but
rather proportional to the space they vacate. This idea was definitely followed for the cozy space this organ speaks into.
Attention all you pipe organ fans who have always wanted to have a
pipe organ of your own in your own home! Haven't quite figured out
where to put everything in the house? Look closely at this organ as its
small size and method of installation should give you some ideas as
to how
to do it, and in a way that your spouse won't completely
think you've gone off the deep end!
Church and Organ History
As noted above, this is the second church building for
St. John Lutheran. The original church was built in 1856, but due to
increasing membership, a new church building was constructed and dedicated on October
14, 1900. The building is 48' long and 36' wide and cost approximately
$4,000 to construct.
Originally a small reed organ was used in the church. Later the
parish decided to purchase a new organ for the church. A pipe organ built by the M.P. Möller Pipe Organ Company of Hagerstown, MD was purchased for $3,750, and dedicated on May
7, 1950. The church and organ remained the primary place of worship
until increased membership necessitated the construction of yet another
church building. The current church building was completed in 1999, and
is the home to a beautiful Casavant organ.
The old church building and its M.P. Möller pipe organ continue to be used on occasion today.
