Photos of the Swell Division

Swell The Swell Division is located in the center of the platform. The Swell box has not yet been constructed around the pipes, thus there is no expression of this division at this time. This is bad for the organist, but good for the photographer as it makes the pipes unusually accessible.
Swell Here's a view of the Swell Division from the opposite side. This view shows some of the mitered bass pipes in the back.
Swell A better look at the mitered bass pipes reveal that there are two ranks of pipes represented. Note that there are tapered pipes and normal cylindrical pipes. The tapered pipes are from the 8' Spitzgamba rank, and the cylindrical pipes are from the 8' Vox Celeste rank.

Here's a closer look at the back pipe racks in the Swell. Ranks from left to right are 1 1/3' Larigot, 4' Flauto Traverso, 8' Vox Celeste, 8' Rohrflöte (pipes with red felt), 8' Spitzgamba (conical pipes on right). Note that some of the ranks are mixed together on the different racks.

Swell Division The back three rows of pipes in the Swell have three distinctly different constructions. On the left is the 8' Vox Celeste, the very odd looking "chimney" pipes with their red bands are 8' Rohrflöte pipes, and finally the tapered conical pipes of the 8' Spitzgamba rank are on the right.
Swell The pipes of the 4' Flauto Traverso rank have holes in them. These affect the pitch of the pipe. These holes can be seen in the metal pipes in the center and left in the photo.
Swell This is a view of the front pipe racks in the Swell Division. From left to right, the first three rows of pipes are the III Scharf 2/3', next two rows are the 2' Blockflöte, next is the 4' Principal, then the 8' Trompette rank actually a part of the Pedal Division, and on the far right is the 8' Hautbois rank.

Swell Division Here's a closer view of the reeds in the front of the Swell. The 8' Hautbois rank is on the left, and the 8' Trompette rank is on the right. The left two rows of pipes with the curved tops are stamped "Hautbois", while the back two rows which look more like trumpets are stamped "Fagot". Originally the 16' Dulzian rank was in the Trompette rank's space, but this rank was removed in favor of the Trompette.
Swell Division Front and center in the Swell is this oddity. This is the C pipe of the 8' Hautbois rank. The builder of the organ, the Delaware Organ Company, mostly took materials from other organs and pieced them together to make complete organs. This pipe and its 90 degree angles might have been done for one of its previous installations. This is an example of how not to construct a pipe!
