The console for the organ sits in the
center of the back of the church. The organ blower and some pedal pipes
can be seen behind it.The contemporary gray carpeting covering the
console platform is a welcome change to the ugly dark green shag
carpeting it sat on in its previous home at St. Agatha Catholic Church
in Upper Arlington, OH. |
|
This console has a somewhat unique
triangular placement for its stop tabs. The Swell Division is on top,
Pedal Division on the left side, and Great Division on the right side.
A handful of thumb piston preset buttons are available for the organist.
The spot on the console previously occupied by the builder's plate is evident on the left side. |
|
Here's a close up of the Pedal tabs. True
to the standard, black tabs are flue and string stops, and the red tabs
are reeds and couplers. Note that the last coupler on the right only
couples the Swell and Pedal at the 4' pitch. |
|
In the center are the tabs for the Swell Division. Note that the 2/3' Scharf III is a mixture stop. The III
indicates that the stop draws three ranks of pipes.
On this organ, the Swell Division is the only one with a tremulant.
|
|
A few things to note regarding the
Great Division stops. The Roman numerals on the Sesquialtera II and 1-1/3' Mixture IV
stop tabs indicate the number of ranks drawn for each stop.
Note the stop tab for the Trompette-En-Chamade 8' rank (unusual to see
it hyphenated), and the blank tab for possible future expansion. |
|
On the far right side are lights for
current (i.e. organ on), Crescendo, and Sforzando. The Crescendo light
will illuminate if the Crescendo pedal is pressed (regardless of how
far).
|
|
Down below we see the pedal board, toe
pistons, and foot pedals for Swell (left) and Crescendo (right). The
top right toe piston, which is missing its label, is likely for
Sforzando. |
|
Directly behind the console is the blower for the organ. Normally
this is hidden in a room all by itself in order to isolate the blower's
sound, but due to the unique set up at the church it was placed below
the pipes behind the console. Here is the builder's plate for the
equipment. The 5/89 build date suggests that this blower was installed
to replace another blower at some point during its life while at St.
Agatha church. |
|
Wiring boxes for the organ sit behind the blower. Judging by the
older looking box, the wiring is original to the instrument when it was
installed in St. Agatha in 1977. |
|
Here's a better look at the lower wiring panel. Note the bundles
of wires entering from the left side. Keeping it all straight can be a
challenge! |
