St. John Lutheran Church
Dublin, OH
3/42 Casavant
Opus 3820 - 2004
Tucked away just off the beaten path in the Columbus suburb
of Dublin
is St. John Lutheran Church which is home to the fine 3/42 Casavant
organ, Opus 3820 built in 2004. The organ was built new for the church
expansion.
Parish
History
St. John Lutheran Church was organized in 1855 and was
established at
its present location in 1900. A 48' x 36' brick building was dedicated
on October 14, 1900. Cost of the construction was approximately $4,000.
In 1950, a MP Moller Pipe Organ was installed for $3,750 and replaced
the small reed organ. The organ and the old church building are still
in existence today.
As the community of Dublin grew, so did the parish, thus
necessitating
the need for a larger church. In October of 1999 a new 500 seat church
was dedicated. Cost of the new sanctuary was $2,500,000. The church,
though not very deep, still has remarkable acoustics and good resonance
usually only found in larger venues. The beautiful structure, along
with the other additions to the property, will enable the parish to
grow with the surrounding community for many years to come.
The
Organ
The three manual, 42 rank, 32 stop organ was completed in
2004 by Canadian
organ builder Casavant Freres. The organ has more of a German Baroque
sound than anything, but still delivers nice warm texture from the
pedal voices. The Festliche Trompete (Festival Trumpets) mounted
horizontally or "en chamade" add a flare which certainly gets the
listener's attention. The organ console is able to be moved in the
choir loft.
